Fish-ins

We are hoping that BASS members will be keen to attend, or indeed organise, various fish-in events. For those newer members who may not be aware of what a fish-in event is, it is simply a gaggle of BASS members, who converge on the same stretch of coastline at roughly the same time in order to fish for bass, socialise and meet old friends.

These events are an ideal way for you to meet, mix with and sometimes learn from fellow society members. In previous years we have held these hugely popular events in places like South Wales, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, the Channel Islands, Ireland, and several other places around the UK and abroad.

Usually the fish-ins are held over a weekend, or bank holiday weekend, though sometimes members like to extend the trip by arriving early or staying on for a few extra days. Accommodation varies between camping, bed and breakfasting or even stopping over with fellow BASS members who live locally - it all depends on what the organiser actually organises and of course what you fancy doing yourself.

In recent years we have not organised many fish-ins as we encountered a problem with insurance cover, but that has now been resolved. Any member can organise a fish-in but before doing so please check with Phil Hyde, the fish-in coordinator, that your proposed fish-in does not clash with any others being planned in your chosen area. Email Phil:

Phil can also offer you advice on, selecting suitable venues, arranging accommodation, as well as, health and safety issues and insurance (NB - BASS has public liability insurance cover for such occasions).

Here are a couple of reports on previous fish-ins to give you a 'flavour' of what they are all about.

[NB - You will require a copy of Acrobat Reader on your computer in order to download and read about the fish-ins. A free copy can be downloaded from the Adobe website]

News of organised fish-ins (for BASS members only) will be posted in the BASS website diary and also in the BASS magazine.
