Evidence to EFFRA Select Committee

BASS (represented by John Leballeur, Chairman), NFSA Conservation Group (represented by Richard Ferre, Chairman and Malcolm Gilbert, Fisheries representative for NFSA) and the SACN ( represented by Leon Roskilly, National Co-ordinator and Bob Cox, Executive member), were invited to give evidence to the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee in London concerning the future of UK Fisheries policy.

The Select Committee, after taking evidence from the Recreational and Commercial sectors, concluded that it strongly supported the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit recommendations to develop the recreational sea angling sector, which has considerable economic value. The Committee regarded that this sector has been overlooked and under-represented for too long and it recommended that a single organisation should be identified to represent the needs of Recreational Sea Angling at national level, at the earliest opportunity.
