On Saturday 21 April 2007, BASS, represented by Steve Binckes, Editor of the BASS magazine and John Taylor of the BASS Committee, attended the annual dinner and awards ceremony of the Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club (PBSBAC) to present trophies sponsored by BASS.

The Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club is one of the premier small boat angling clubs on the South Coast, who have a history of promoting conservation, catch & release in club competitions, as well as the study of marine life, by collecting and collating scale samples, which are used for scientific research. PBSBAC is an affiliated member of BASS and was the first angling club to receive a presentation from the newly formed BASS presentations team.

BASS has sponsored two trophies dedicated to the catch and release of large bass by PBSBAC members. One for the largest bass released by a member during the year and the other for the largest bass released during the PBSBAC annual ‘bass only’ competition, which this year is to be held in July. The first winner of the annual trophy, Allan McAvoy was well deserved, as Allan has caught and released many double figure bass during the last year. The winning fish was a specimen of 13lb 6oz.[NB – Allan caught and released a 13lb 4oz bass the week before!]

During the course of the evening the PBSBAC Chairman, Martin Burt presented Steve Binckes with a cheque for £200 as a donation to the BASS Restoration Project.
